Why is medication in the United States so expensive? Some say because of the cost of getting a drug on the market. If that is the case the rest of the world should have to pay that cost. One medication I take which has been on the market for over 30 years for the prevention of seizures costs me over $100 per month. Why? It is a common medication used for several treatments, not some disease only 4 people in the world have.
I recently watched a program about some hero's who were at ground zero during the attack on the twin towers. They were fireman, nurses and other emergency people who were visiting New York and helped the local workers. One of them developed a breathing problem and needs an inhaler. This person pays over $100 per inhaler. They were taken to Cuba to meet some of the local firefighters. The local hospital charged this person less than $1 per inhaler. I DO NOT WANT TO LIVE IN A COMMUNIST COUNTRY but who is getting screwed?
We need to tell our "if you want to call them" Leaders about this problem. Let them know they are working for us and we can always vote their sorry butts out of office. Instead the RX companies spend millions maybe even billions of dollars to Lobbyist. These people bribe our leaders to vote to take care of their best interests and not ours.
Maybe one solution is to publish the names and home addresses of the Lobbyist. I bet that would get some of them out of business. How about making it a law a Senator, Congressman, Mayor or dog catcher has to publish who gives them money, trips or anything of value. Our system is better than anywhere in the world but it is broken. So far no one has come up with any ideas to fix the problems only more legislation that hurts the citizens.
